My Story

Meldon is a freelance journalist and writer based on the East Coast.  She worked as a researcher and Content Strategy Specialist at the American Press Institute (API). At API she drove change in newsrooms around the country by helping them listen more deeply to their communities through data and audience research. Prior to API, Meldon worked in the social sector as a development officer, grant writer, and communications specialist. She also worked in marketing for a San Francisco-based real estate startup.

Meldon holds a BA from Bryn Mawr College and an MA in Journalism and Public Affairs from American University with an emphasis in investigative reporting.

Her writing has been published in The Atlantic, The Washington Monthly, Richmond Magazine, Christ and Pop Culture, and others. Her work has been cited by the New York Times, NPR, The Huffington Post, and others. She’s also contributed to investigations for both the Investigative Reporting Workshop and The Washington Post.

She’s always been a fierce advocate for asset-based community development and frequently lends her writing and business savvy to local startups and nonprofits. In her spare time she loves to relax with friends and family, think up new business ideas, explore old cities, and add to her ever-expanding collection of lavender-scented items
